Olie Willis Whetzel, 82, of Dorcas, died Monday, Dec. 28, at E.A. Hawse Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Baker.
Born Dec. 15, 1938, in Pendleton County, he was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Maggie (Sites) Whetzel. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy Whetzel; five brothers, Edward, Isaac, Arnold, Fred and Vernon Whetzel; and one sister, Viola Riggleman.
Mr. Whetzel attended Borror Schoolhouse in Upper Tract and was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Petersburg. He had worked for the City of Petersburg, the U.S. Forestry Service, and retired from Kessel Lumber Company.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Leona (Judy) Whetzel, whom he married Aug. 15, 1960; one daughter, Bonnie Bland of Upper Tract; one son, Lindsey Whetzel of Rough Run; three sisters, Grace Crites and Nellie Iman, both of Petersburg and Elsie Keplinger of Dorcas; two brothers, Johnny Whetzel of Circleville and  Glenn Whetzel of Dorcas; five grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; six great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
In honoring Mr. Whetzel’s wishes, his body was cremated and inurnment took place in the Whetzel Cemetery, Upper Tract.
