Administrators, teachers, community leaders and state representatives came together last week to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the new pre-kindergarten facility at Petersburg Elementary School. Students have already started at the new facility this semester

Last week, Grant County School celebrated the official grand opening of the new Petersburg Elementary School Pre-K facility. This multi-classroom expansion was funded by a $5.3 million School Building Authority (SBA) grant, which was awarded to the county. The SBA also funded a new roof and four HVAC units with this award. This new facility features a 6,000 square foot center that houses four classrooms and an open common area.

The Grant County Commission announced yesterday that plans to move the Grant County Courthouse down to a single point of entry will be slightly delayed, now officially to begin on Nov. 3. The initial date the single point entry was slated to begin was Oct. 20; however, the commission explained that due to unforeseen circumstances that date had been slightly delayed. According to information put out by the commission, the courthouse entrance will be the main entrance located in the large parking area and leading into the waiting area of the courtroom.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Department’s members of the Potomac Highlands Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force intercepted multiple people as they brought 155 “jumbo” capsules of suspected fentanyl and an excess of 40 grams of loose “raw” fentanyl from Baltimore to be sold in Petersburg. According to the police report filed on the incident, the officers received information about the two individuals traveling from Baltimore, Md., to Grant County for the purpose of selling fentanyl and other substances in the area.
